$1,000 towards $1,000

As many of you know, I went to Suruc, Turkey at the beginning of last year to volunteer to help refugees escaping war and violence across the border in Syria. The people I met living in the camps were artists, musicians, teachers, bakers, farmers, loving mothers and fathers, and energetic young children with aspirations for the future. They never thought they would be refugees, but when violence came to their city, the only choice they had was to stay and die or flee. They crossed the border leaving everything behind and in the camps they struggled to survive, relying on the kindness of others.

The three camps I volunteered in were the home to approximately 20,000 people. Grassroots groups worked around the clock to provide basic necessities like shelter, food and clothes. However, there was no access to medical care for anyone in the camp. I met one girl who suffered from a skin condition that was causing her a lot of pain. Though the condition was treatable, there were no clinics where she could receive care.

I am happy to support EMERGENCY - who currently operates in refugee camps helping to provide medical care for people just like those that I met.

Since 2014, EMERGENCY has operated five Healthcare Clinics in camps in northern Iraq for people from Syria and Iraq who have been forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing violence and war. Living conditions in the camps are difficult; there are not always enough tents in which to seek shelter, and supplies of running water and electricity are unreliable. The climate is harsh, with hot and dry summers, and cold and snowy winters.

The Healthcare Clinics treat common medical conditions including respiratory, gastrointestinal, skin and urinary tract infections, as well as chronic health conditions including diabetes and hypertension. The Centers provide gynecological and midwifery services for women, and a vaccination program for children.

Please join me in supporting EMERGENCY so that they may continue to do this amazing work. Any amount will help provide medical care to people that are in great need. Thank you!
